APPLEBY FOUNDATION, Inc.is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization, founded in New York City in 1979. Initially the focus was driven by dance presentation and choreographic activities including multi-media collaborations. In 2009 the Foundation acquired an unused and neglected Masonic Lodge, built in 1911, in the rural Northern Adirondacks as the foundation focus broadened its focus from ballet presentation, into strengthening community culture through exposure to multi-arts. It operates the Tahawus Cultural Center in Au Sable Forks, New York.
AFI MISSION is to create, develop, and present works and ideas that connect artists and audiences, children and adults, and to strengthen and enliven communities through diverse exposure, access to, and participation in the arts. In all our creative expression, our work reminds us to remain ever-inventive and responsive to a changing environment.
